Meet Our New Athletic Director: Coach Jami Harper
Earlier this summer, we introduced Coach Jami Harper as the co-leader of our girls basketball program—and after so many positive responses, we felt it was worth reintroducing her in a new light. For those who may have missed her story the first time, we’re excited to share a little more about the leader now serving as Byne Christian School’s Athletic Director.
Coach Harper officially steps into the role of Athletic Director later this month, and she brings with her a heart for ministry, a passion for athletics, and a deep commitment to students and families. A Kansas native, Jami played collegiate basketball at Butler County Community College and Emporia State University. Her leadership journey took root at McConnell Air Force Base, where she served for ten years as both Recreation Director and Youth Sports Director, organizing teams, activities, and trips, and coaching instructional basketball and youth sports.
After relocating to Georgia in 2000, Coach Harper made her mark in the Southwest Georgia community, coaching youth league teams, teaching Sunday School, and becoming a trusted and encouraging presence for student-athletes. Last season, she joined the Byne family as an assistant coach for our girls’ basketball team, where she provided steady support and strong leadership to our athletes on and off the court.
Just this week, Jami retired from the Sowega Council on Aging, where she faithfully served for 20 years, first as Ministries Coordinator and most recently as Program Manager. Her years of community service reflect her character: dependable, caring, and driven to make a difference.
Coach Harper’s heart for ministry continues outside the gym as well. She is a choir member, substitute pianist, and Children’s Sunday School teacher at Poulan Methodist Church, where her husband, Dan, serves as pastor. Together, they have one daughter, Traci.
We’re incredibly grateful to have Coach Harper guiding our athletic department. Her strong foundation in leadership and sports, coupled with her heart for students and families, makes her a valuable asset to our school community. Join us in welcoming Coach Harper in her new role!
